The Centre for Regional Policy Research and Cooperation “Studiorum”, within the project “Solving an Institutional Puzzle: What National Human Rights Institution Model for Macedonia,” supported by the National Endowment for Democracy from Washington, USA, invites abstract submissions, as well as panel proposals for the international conference under the working title:
National Human Rights Institutions and the promotion and protection of Human Rights in Macedonia and the Western Balkans
October 3-4, 2012, Skopje, Macedonia.
The overall aim of the Conference is to serve as a platform for representatives from regional and European National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs), students, academics, policy researchers and other participants to discuss the current situation, challenges and advancements relating to human rights, and precisely the institutional models of the NHRIs, with a focus on the regional NHRIs, and more specifically on the Macedonian one.
The conference participants will seek to share their experiences and best practices on the work of the NHRIs, while focusing on the most efficient model for the case of Macedonia, following the Paris principles. Further, discussions will include practical suggestions reflecting on the institutional models recommended by the project research team with the broad involvement of the national experts on the theme.
Papers and panels can relate, but are not limited, to the following topics:
- NHRI reform;
- NHRI accreditation processes;
- NHRI models;
- NHRIs in the national human rights system;
- NHRIs and European accession;
- Specific aspects of the work of NHRIs, such as character, membership, mandate, etc.
Abstracts must be no longer than 300 words (download sample), while panel proposals should including up to three speakers. The submissions can be made using the Abstract Submission Form, along with short CVs of authors to info@studiorum.org.mk by September 15, 2012. Authors will be notified of acceptance by September 20, 2012.

Please note that the Conference has no participation fee, however CRPRC Studiorum cannot cover transport and accommodation costs.
