Legal Seminar 2012 – Equality Law for Everyone: Challenges Ahead

CRPRC Studiorum’s representative participated in the annual legal seminar organised by the European Network of Legal Experts in the Non-Discrimination Field and the European Network of Legal Experts in the field of Gender Equality, which took place in Brussels on the 26th of November 2012.

HRP_2012_legal_seminarBiljana Kotevska, Programme Director of the Human Rights programme, participated in the legal seminar on equality and non-discrimination, organised annually by the European Network of Legal Experts in the Non-Discrimination Field and the European Network of Legal Experts in the field of Gender Equality. The topic of the seminar for 2012 was ‘Equality Law for Everyone: Challenges Ahead’.

Over 150 participants (representatives of the European Commission, EU Member States governments, equality bodies and EU-umbrella organisations) discussed, and shared practices and experiences regarding the transposition and implementation of EU equality and anti-discrimination Directives. Some of today’s most prominent academics and practitioners working on equality and non-discrimination presented at the seminar, including Judge Sacha Prechal (Court of Justice of the European Union), Prof. Christa Tobler (Universities of Basel and Leiden), Prof. Evelyn Ellis (University of Birmingham), Prof. Dr. Oddný Mjöll Arnardóttir (University of Iceland), Prof. Isabelle Rorive (Free University Brussels), Mr. Declan O’Dempsey (Barrister at Cloisters, London), and many more.

Key issues discussed at the seminar were: recent case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights, pregnancy and maternity discrimination, as well as age and religious discrimination in employment.
