The Minister of Health, Mr Nikola Todorov and the WHO Regional Director for Europe Dr Zsuzsanna Jakab have congratulated the EAAD to the present ministers and high level officials, acknowledging its importance and necessity for further efforts in rational antibiotic use and fighting antimicrobial resistance.

Mr Todorov has highlighted that the SEE Health Network works on this very important challenge in the 21st century through the SEEHN Regional Health Development Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance, in Sofia Bulgaria, committing technical expertise and active collaboration in the field. Congratulating the Celebration of EAAD for the seventh time, Mr Todorov expressed the honour for the presence of Dr Zsuzsanna Jakab, the founder of the EAAD during her leadership of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) in Stockholm, Sweden, expressing gratitude for this excellent initiative for reverting the negative trends in antimicrobial resistance globally and in Europe as well.

Greeting the SEEHN Member States officials, Dr Jakab has expressed the gratitude and satisfaction from the success of the established EAAD and its celebration as pan-European initiative, not only in the EU Member States, but also in the EU candidate countries, and the countries of the former Soviet Union. The data gathered on the antibiotic use and antimicrobial resistance – now available for a wider number of countries, represents a very powerful tool for further policy actions, in this global challenge.
