Cervical cancer is caused by persistent infections with certain types of the Human Papilloma Virus or HPV. There are more than 100 types of HPV. About 40 of these can infect the genital area of both men and women, and are called genital HPVs. Some of these cause genital warts and others, about 15 high-risk types, can cause the cells of the cervix to become abnormal and eventually develop into cervical cancer.
Ракот на грлото на матката најчесто е предизвикан со долготрајна инфекција од одредени видови на Хуман Папилома вирусот или накусо ХП�`. Има повеќе од 100 типови на ХП�` вирусот. Околу 40 од нив можат да се појават во гениталните области кај мажи и жени и се нарекуваат генитални ХП�`. Некои од овие типови на вирусот можат да предизвикаат разни венерични болести, додека 15 ризични типови можат да предизвикаат абнормални симптоми во грлото на матката и подоцна можат да прераснат во рак.
