Studiorum’s Contribution in the UN CRPD Consultations

The United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities opened a consultation process on the first two Draft General Comments on the Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities – Draft General Comment No.1 on Article 12 – Equal Recognition before the Law, and Draft General Comment No.2 on Article 9 – Accessibility.

As part of its initiative for advancing international Human Rights law and Human Rights standards, Studiorum participated in these consultations with a written submission on Article 9 of the Convention, pertaining to accessibility. In our submission, we highlighted several general issues and presented specific recommendations for amending the text of the Draft General Comment No.2. Our comments focused on clearer articulation in the Draft General Comment text of the principle of equality and non-discrimination, the complex and multi-dimensional nature of the principle of accessibility and the diveristy of the group of persons with disabilities. We also highlighted the need for introducing all dimensions of this principle across all sectors, as well as other issues. The full text of the submission (in English) can be found on the website of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights on the following link.
