“National Human Rights Institutions and the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in Macedonia and the Western Balkans”

The Center for Regional Policy Research and Cooperation “Studiorum” organized the International Conference “National Human Rights Institutions and the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in Macedonia and the Western Balkans” at the EU Info Centre in Skopje on 3-4 October, 2012.

Over 80 prominent Human Rights experts and representatives from public institutions from Macedonia and the region took part in the Conference, presenting their experience and opinions on the topic. The Conference was organized within the project “Solving an Institutional Puzzle: What National Human Rights Institution Model for Macedonia,” whose main purpose is to provide evidence-based policy recommendations for the process of institutional model design of the NHRI in Macedonia in line with both the international standards and best practices and the political and socio-economic specificities in the country, so to achieve status “A” accreditation.

The conclusions and recommendations from the Conference will be included in the final study of the project, which will be published by the end of November 2012.
