Studiorum Hosted the Conference of the Eurasian Initiative for Patient Safety

Within the constant efforts to improve implementation of patients’ rights and quality of health services by improving patient safety and enabling working conditions of health workers, Center for Regional Studies and Cooperation “Studiorum” and Eurasian Initiative for Patient Safety organized Conference on Eurasian Initiative for Patient Safety in Hotel Continental, Skopje from 19 to 21 November 2009. At the conference, despite the eminent representatives of the health profession and patients’ organizations from the Republic of Macedonia, representatives of governmental institutions and NGOs from 18 countries from three continents took part: Slovenia, Poland, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Moldova, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina Albania, Russia, Georgia, Belarus, Armenia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and United States of America.

Besides discussions on the future of Eurasian initiative and determination of priorities for its action in the member states of the Initiative, the participants have exchanged experience and discussed more recent topics in the field of patient safety and improvement of health services to better health for all – accreditation of health institutions, health protection tailored to the needs of the patient, palliative care, social marketing as a tool for improving patient safety and the role of cooperation of governmental and nongovernmental sectors.

Within the conference, for the second time the European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EAAD) was also celebrated, in joint organization of CRPRC Studiorum, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Macedonia, Institute of Public Health, Institute of Microbiology and Parasitology at the Medical Faculty and the Association of Microbiologists of the Republic of Macedonia. The EAAD celebration is supported and under patronage of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), Stockholm, Sweden.
